Space Seed Holdings Announces Investment in Spacenome Lab., Inc. (Formerly NEST EdLAB)

Space Seed Holdings, Inc. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Kengo Suzuki), a space deep-tech venture builder, announces its participation in a third-party allotment of shares by NEST EdLAB. This investment aligns with NEST EdLAB’s business expansion and official renaming to Spacenome Lab., Inc. (Headquarters: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Daigo Fujita), effective March 1, 2026.

Space Seed Holdings: Building Space Ventures

Founded in January 2024, Space Seed Holdings is a space deep-tech venture builder driven by the mission to "Make Sci-Fi Non-Fiction." The company explores scientific frontiers ranging from extending human healthy life expectancy to establishing sustainable infrastructure in space. Its ultimate goal is to consolidate the technology, capital, and expertise gained from terrestrial operations to build the foundational technologies required for human space habitation by 2040.

Over the past two years, the company has achieved multiple milestones across investments and R&D both domestically and internationally. It also operates as an official member of Japan's space development ecosystem through its participation in SPACE FOODSPHERE, a co-creation program backed by JAXA.

Background of the Investment: The Strategic Value of "Next Generation" and "IP"

The goal of achieving space habitation by 2040 cannot be realized solely through hardware development, such as rockets and satellites. Long-term competitiveness in the space industry requires human talent capable of conducting research, living, and innovating in space, alongside the strategic use of the intellectual property (IP) generated from these activities.

Spacenome Lab. (formerly NEST EdLAB) has nearly two decades of unparalleled experience at the intersection of space and education. In 2008, it became the first private enterprise to launch a "Space Education Project" utilizing the commercial allocation of "Kibo," the Japanese Experiment Module on the International Space Station (ISS). In 2016, it launched the "Global Rocketry Challenge" for middle and high school students in collaboration with Lockheed Martin. In 2022, the company spun off as NEST EdLAB to operate "NEST LAB.", an online research school for students. Furthering its mission to connect education with the space sector, it launched an "Entrepreneurship Major: Space Utilization Course" in 2025, featuring frontline space venture founders as instructors.

Space Seed Holdings made this investment to jointly drive Spacenome Lab.'s full-scale expansion into the "Space Utilization Research Business." Following this investment, Kengo Suzuki, CEO of Space Seed Holdings, will be appointed as the Director of Spacenome Lab.'s new "SPACE LAB." (overseeing Space Research and IP).

Core Business from March 2026: "SPACE LAB."

The newly established "SPACE LAB." will propose space utilization research themes to government bodies and major corporations. It will also conduct mock research on Earth and in low Earth orbit using ultra-small space experiment modules, secure and monetize space patents, and develop "SpaceAgent," an LLM (Large Language Model)-driven experiment automation technology designed for space operations. Furthermore, SPACE LAB. will link these research initiatives with next-generation education programs, developing space-related educational materials accessible even to elementary school students.

Designing Earth for the Next Ten Generations

Spacenome Lab. operates under the mission of "Designing Earth for the Next Ten Generations." The name "Spacenome" reflects the integration (nome) of Earth's nature, engineering, science, technology, and space. By synthesizing these disciplines, the company aims to design an ultra-long-term vision for the planet.

This vision involves deeply understanding and enhancing the sustainability of our current global environment while simultaneously expanding human activity into space to establish the scientific foundation for "another Earth." Spacenome Lab. views these dual challenges as essential to contributing to the planet and realizing a society that endures across generations. To achieve this, it will drive two core operations: the existing next-generation education business (NEST LAB.) and the new space utilization research business (SPACE LAB.).

Value Delivered by the Partnership

  • Building a Next-Generation Space Talent Pipeline: By connecting the inquiring minds nurtured at NEST LAB. with Space Seed's vision for space habitation, the partnership will create an ecosystem that trains the next generation of scientists and entrepreneurs who view space as a natural domain of activity.

  • Joint Promotion of Space Utilization Research: The partnership will combine Space Seed Group's research network in longevity, fermentation, and space systems with Spacenome Lab.'s space experiment infrastructure and educational expertise. This enables end-to-end space utilization research, spanning from orbital experiments to terrestrial educational materials.

  • Strengthening the Space IP Portfolio: The companies will collaborate on the strategic acquisition, management, and utilization of intellectual property, including space patents, building a shared competitive advantage in the future space industry.

Comment from Kengo Suzuki, CEO of Space Seed Holdings

"Spacenome Lab.'s vision of 'Designing Earth for the Next Ten Generations' aligns perfectly—both in timeline and direction—with our longstanding commitment to 'Make Sci-Fi Non-Fiction.' We are honored to collaborate with the Leave a Nest Group, which has consistently built environments where the next generation can seriously consider space as a field of action and take on research challenges. As the Director of SPACE LAB., I look forward to accelerating Spacenome Lab.'s initiatives from both a research and IP strategy perspective, as we design the future of humanity together."
